NICARAGUA: Regional elections come under scrutiny

The US claims that the municipal and regional elections on 5 March run the risk of being illegitimate. The main opposition Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) is accusing the Partido Liberal Constitucionalista (PLC) of trying to sabotage the elections. There is a lot at stake in the elections with the winner likely to carry momentum into the all-important presidential and legislative elections on 5 November.
