In brief: Remittances to Honduras continue to rise

*Honduras’ central bank (BCH) has released new figures showing that remittances sent to Honduras in February 2025 totalled US$853.3m, up 10% on the US$775.0m received in January 2025. This brings the total for the first two months of 2025 to US$1.63bn, a 20% increase on the US$1.36bn received in the same period in 2024. The continued rise in remittances comes amid uncertainty stemming from the hardline migration policies enacted by US President Donald Trump whose administration is seeking to carry out mass deportations of migrants. Remittances to Honduras totalled US$9.74bn in 2024, up from US$9.18bn in 2023. According to the latest (2023) figures from the World Bank, remittances account for 26.1% of Honduras’ GDP.
