In brief: Argentina’s foreign reserves swell following IMF disbursement

*Argentina’s central bank (BCRA) has announced that its international reserves total US$36.8bn following the first disbursement as part of the government’s new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This is the highest international reserves have been since April 2023. The reserves are up from US$24.31bn on 14 April. The IMF agreed to release US$12bn – 60% of the full loan agreement amount of US$20bn – in the first disbursement, which was made available just four days after the Fund’s executive board signed off on the deal on 11 April. A further US$2bn will be made available subject to the agreement’s first review in June.
