One moment five Venezuelan opposition leaders were in the residence of the Argentine embassy in Caracas, where they had been confined for the previous 15 months. The next, they were free and well, and in the US. Details of their change in status remain unexplained but what is clear is that the whole incident is deeply embarrassing for the government led by President Nicolás Maduro.
