In brief: Argentina’s inflation slows in April

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the inflation figures for April, showing a monthly inflation rate of 2.8% and an annual rate of 47.3%. This latest monthly rate is down from 3.7% inflation registered for March, when the annual rate was 55.9%. This is also the first month since President Javier Milei took office in December 2023 that the annual rate has fallen below 50%. The last time that Argentina’s annual inflation was lower than 50% was May 2021. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by the Indec, the categories with the highest monthly inflation were restaurants & hotels (+4.1%), recreation & culture (+4.0%), and clothing & footwear (+3.8%).
