*Paraguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new data showing an unemployment rate of 5.6% in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 1 percentage point increase from the final quarter of 2024. Despite the quarterly increase, unemployment fell by 1.3 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024, largely due to a significant drop in female unemployment, which fell from 9.1% to 6.9%. Of the approximately 171,634 people classified as unemployed, 53.5% were women (91,789) and 46.5% were men (79,845). The report also showed a slight increase in underemployment, which rose from 2.9% to 3.1% year-on-year, with the percentage notably higher among women (4.6%) than men (2.0%). However, when combined, the underemployment and unemployment rate showed an annual decrease, from 9.8% in the first quarter of 2024 to 8.7% in Q1 2025.
