Former central bank chief to join Nubank. Brazil’s largest digital bank, Nubank, announced on 6 May that the former head of the central bank (BCB), Roberto Campos Neto (2019-2025), will serve as Nubank’s Vice Chairman and Global Head of Public Policy from 1 July. In a company press release, the CEO and founder of Nubank, David Vélez, praised Campos Neto as “one of the world’s leading thinkers in how to use technology to advance local financial systems”. The statement highlighted BCB initiatives implemented under Campos Neto’s leadership, such as the launch of the Pix digital payment system, the ‘Open Finance’ system to share and integrate financial data and systems, and the ongoing research into creating a new digital currency known as ‘Drex’.
