*Panama’s civil aviation authority (AAC) has announced the resumption of flights between Panama and Venezuela, which had been suspended since July 2024 when
bilateral relations were severed after Panama’s government refused to recognise President
Nicolás Maduro as the winner of Venezuela’s disputed presidential election. Panama’s President
José Raúl Mulino yesterday said that the resumption of flights will aid the return home of Venezuelan migrants who have been deported from the US to Panama, which is acting as a bridge to third countries under an agreement with US President
Donald Trump’s administration. Mulino said that
“we need Venezuela to help transport its citizens who are coming from north to south… I’ve asked for this support, because obviously it’s very difficult on our own.” He said that
“the number of migrants is going up a little – it’s not a mass of people who are going from north to south, but they’re mostly Venezuelans”.End of preview - This article contains approximately 151 words.
