*Brazil’s state-controlled oil company Petrobras has submitted an official declaration of interest to explore oil in nine offshore blocks in the Ivory Coast. According to a company press release, the government of the West African country has approved Petrobras’ declaration of interest. The next stage of the process will be to negotiate the terms of exploration contracts. In recent years, Petrobras has been making more efforts to expand into African oil reserves. In February last year the company closed deals to explore oil off the coast of São Tomé and Príncipe, in joint ventures with other companies such as British multinational oil firm Shell and Portuguese oil company Galp. Early this year reports in the press cited Petrobras’ director for exploration and production,
Sylvia Anjos, as saying that the company was in talks with Shell, US oil company ExxonMobil, and French oil firm TotalEnergies to partner on projects to explore offshore oil reserves in Angola, Namibia, and South Africa.
