In brief: Argentina gov’t reports drop in poverty

*Argentina’s ministry for human capital has estimated that the poverty rate in Argentina was running at 31.7% in the first quarter of 2025, down from 54.8% in the first quarter of 2024. According to the same report, the rate of indigence in the first quarter of 2025 was 7.3%, down from 20.2% in the first quarter of 2024. The ministry said that the figures were based on projections by the national council for the coordination of social policies (CNCPS), a government body, which in turn was based on data from the national statistics institute (Indec).
