*The Dominican Republic’s tourism ministry has released new figures showing that 6.15m tourists visited the country in the first six months of 2025, which it describes as a record for the first half of the year. The January-June 2025 figure is up 3% on the same period in 2024, 15% on 2023, and 48% on 2019 – the year before the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic struck. According to the same report, 45% of tourists were from the US, 18% were from Canada, 6% were from Argentina, and 4% were from Colombia. Hotel occupation over this period exceeded 77%. Tourism Minister David Collado said that he expected the Dominican Republic will receive 12m visitors this year. The country received a record 11.19m tourists in 2024 – an increase of 9% on 2023.
