In brief: Argentina’s monthly inflation ticks up while annual rate declines

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the inflation figures for June, showing a monthly inflation rate of 1.6% and an annual rate of 39.4%. This latest monthly rate is up slightly from 1.5% inflation registered in May, although remains below the psychological threshold of 2%. The monthly rate was also below the 1.9% median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. The annual rate continued to decrease in June, down from 43.5% in May, representing its fourteenth consecutive decline. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by Indec, the categories with the highest monthly inflation were education (+3.7%), housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+3.4%), and alcoholic drinks and tobacco (+2.8%). The categories to register the smallest monthly price rises were food and non-alcoholic drinks (+0.6%) and clothing and footwear (+0.5%).
