*Neoenergia, the Brazilian subsidiary of Spanish energy company Iberdrola, has announced that it signed a financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to open a credit line of up to €300m (US$349m). According to a company statement, the funding has been classified as
“85% green and for climate action”. This credit line falls under the Global Gateway initiative of the European Union (EU), a global infrastructure investment strategy launched by the EU in 2021 to address global environmental challenges through sustainable finance. Neoenergia has highlighted that this latest financing agreement marks the first investment in Brazil’s electricity sector under the Global Gateway initiative.
