Remittances could soon fall. The Honduran central bank reported on 12 July that remittances sent back by expatriates living abroad totalled US$5.80bn for the first six months of the year, up by as much as 25.3% on the same period last year. Some 80% of total remittances were sent back by Honduran expatriates living in the US. Total remittances sent back to the Dominican Republic, meanwhile, increased by 11.2% over the same period to US$5.83bn, according to data released by the Dominican central bank on 13 July.
