Economic Overview: Panama

Two of the country's biggest banks announced a merger that would create a bank with US$7bn in assets. The merger is between Banco General and Banco Continental. The merged bank will be known as the BG Financial Group Inc. The merger is subject to approval by the local regulators and should be concluded in 2007.
