Exports rose by 33.8% in the first 11 months of the 2006, according to the Centro de Exportación e Inversión de República Dominicana (CEI-RD). In the first 11 months of 2006, export receipts came to US$1.32bn. The main reason for the jump was the 66% surge in metal export receipts, principally ferronickel. Falcondo, at Bonao, on the northern coast is one of the world's biggest ferronickel mines producing about 30,000t a year. Sugar exports, traditionally the main export product, also did well rising by 21.5%. Non-traditional exports, principally textiles and other products manufactured in the country's free zones, had a 17.5% increase in the first 11 months of 2006.
