In brief: Argentina’s economic activity down in monthly terms

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae) for June, showing a 0.7% decline compared with the previous month and above economists’ estimates of a 0.2% drop cited by Bloomberg. In annual terms, the Emae was up 6.4%, the ninth consecutive month of annual growth. The June result follows a monthly decline of 0.2% in May, when annual growth was 5.3%. According to Indec’s report, 12 economic sectors expanded in June compared with the same month in 2024, including financial services (+28.7%), and wholesale, retail, and repairs (+11.5%). Three sectors posted yearly declines, the largest of which was in fishing (-74.6%), while public administration and defence, and other community, social and personal services each posted a 0.7% decline.
