BOLIVIA: Judicial realignment continues

Bolivia’s judicial system continues to produce rulings that are favourable to the right-wing opposition, which is poised to take power following the 17 October presidential second round, and detrimental to the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS). The crushing defeat suffered by the MAS in the August first round seems to have altered the stance of the judiciary. After years of accusations that they was serving as a tool for the MAS, judges are moving quickly to improve the legal situation of imprisoned opposition activists [WR-25-34]. Meanwhile, outgoing President Luis Arce is now the subject of an investigation for alleged abandonment of a pregnant woman.
