DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Economic Overview

Inflation in February was 0.31%, only a third of the January rate. The central bank said that the main reason for the continuing rise in consumer prices was the jump in the international oil price.  
In February, the transport sub-index rose by 1.17% and the housing sub-index by 0.58%. Both indices were affected by higher international energy prices. A key component of the housing index is cooking gas prices. On the other side, food prices fell sharply in February: they dropped by 0.66%.
