TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: UNC angry over cancellation of Sharma's trial

The leader of the United National Congress, Trinidad and Tobago's main parliamentary opposition party, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, has called for the immediate resignation of Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls after his refusal to testify on 5 March resulted in the cancellation of Chief Justice Satnarine Sharma's criminal trial. Sharma has been suspended from his duties after being charged with attempting to have a case against a former UNC prime minister dropped. Persad-Bissessar is convinced that McNicolls is plotting with Prime Minister Patrick Manning to have Sharma impeached quickly rather than face drawn out criminal charges.
