Latin American Regional Report: Mexico with a piece about the fight against extortion. On 6 August the public security minister, Omar García Harfuch, announced the arrest of 27 people, which he said took place as part of the government’s national strategy against extortion, which was launched a month earlier. If successful, the fight against extortion could be a major achievement of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s security strategy, enabling her to succeed in an area that is viewed as a weak point of the government of her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024).
