Andean Group - September 2025

Introduction

We begin this September 2025 edition of the Latin American Regional Report: Andean Group with two articles discussing the 17 August first round of Bolivia’s general elections, which saw a total collapse for the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS). After nearly two decades of socialist rule, Bolivia is set for major change with the 19 October presidential run-off to be contested between the centre-right Rodrigo Paz and right-wing former president Jorge Quiroga (2001-2002). Both candidates are broadly in agreement over the need for major changes to Bolivia’s statist economic model, as we discuss in the first article.
