*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the official inflation figures for October, putting monthly inflation at 0.09% and annual inflation at 4.68%. This marks a deceleration from September, when the monthly rate was 0.48% and the annual rate stood at 5.17%. Of the nine categories of products and services measured by the Ibge, six saw a monthly rise in prices. The greatest monthly inflation was registered in clothing (+0.51%), personal spending (+0.45%), and health and personal care (+0.41%). The three categories that posted monthly deflation were household items (-0.34%), housing (-0.30%), and communication (-0.16%). In a press release, the Ibge highlighted a significant drop in household electricity bills, which were down 2.39% in monthly terms, contributing to the monthly deflation in the housing category.
