In brief: Brazil’s economic activity decreases in monthly terms

*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures for its economic activity index (IBC-Br), which showed a 0.2% monthly drop in September. The latest data also showed that economic activity in the third quarter of this year was down 0.9% compared to the second quarter. Compared to September 2024 the IBC-Br for September this year showed a yearly increase of 2.0%, and the accumulated activity in the 12 months through September 2024 was up 3.0% on the preceding 12-month period. The latest monthly decrease in economic activity was mainly driven by a decline in the industrial sector, which registered a 0.7% drop in September this year. The IBC-Br for the services sector showed a 0.1% monthly drop, but the agricultural sector showed a 1.5% increase.
