In brief: Panama’s economic activity up in September

*Panama’s national statistics institute (Inec) has published its monthly index of economic activity, registering a 4.73% year-on-year increase in September. This was up from year-on-year growth of 1.61% in August. Accumulated economic activity rose by 4.30% from January to September. Inec highlighted growth in the transport sector, driven by increased toll payments in the Panama Canal and higher tonnage of goods passing through the waterway; financial intermediation, due to increased deposits and credits at the local level; and construction.
