On 24 November the far-right presidential candidate José Antonio Kast called on President Gabriel Boric to visit Chile’s northernmost region of Arica y Parinacota urgently after Peru’s President José Jerí announced a day earlier that he will issue a decree declaring a state of emergency in border areas to combat organised crime.
