Dominican Haitians face serious discrimination

Dominican Haitians are still being subjected to serious discrimination in the Dominican Republic, according to a recent report by the Mouvement des femmes dominico-haí¯tiennes (MUDHA). The report claims that the Dominican authorities have been denying Dominican citizens of Haitian descent copies of their birth certificates on the grounds that their parents are illegal immigrants. Under the constitution, anyone born in the Dominican Republic has a right to citizenship, with the exception of the children of diplomats or those born to parents in transit.
