Transport sector workers and employers held another one-day strike against extortion on 14 January. An estimated 20,000 buses came to a stop in Lima and Callao, as their owners and drivers demanded greater protection from the government to control extortion by organised crime. The stoppage was widely observed during the morning but less so in the afternoon and evening. The organisers said that in the 15 months to December 2025 a total of 73 bus drivers had been killed at the hands of organised crime groups.
