CUBA: Washington tightens the screws

The US government led by President Donald Trump has dealt a further blow to Cuba’s moribund economy with the announcement that countries who supply oil to Cuba will face tariffs. With Cuba already hit by the loss of Venezuelan oil following the US military incursion in Caracas and removal of former president Nicolás Maduro (2013-2026), the latest threat is fuelling speculation that the future of the Communist government itself could be at stake.
