GUATEMALA | Budget increase approved. Guatemala’s 160-member legislative assembly voted on 28 January to increase the country’s national budget by over Q9.326bn (US$1.22bn). The vote follows the decision at the end of last year by the constitutional court (CC) to suspend the 2026 budget based on alleged procedural issues [EB-26-01]. This resulted in the rollover of the 2025 budget which had itself been amended on various occasions, bringing spending to Q154.8bn, up from Q148.5bn.
