CHILE: Prosecutor to lead security ministry under Kast
Given that President-elect José Antonio Kast’s election campaign last year featured tough rhetoric promising a crackdown on irregular migration and transnational crime, the position of security minister is expected to be one of the most important roles in his government. Charged with this responsibility is public prosecutor Trinidad Steinert. Having served as a the regional prosecutor of the northern region of Tarapacá from 2024-2026, she has experience in cases involving members of the Venezuelan criminal organisation Tren de Aragua, which is particularly active in the region.
