NICARAGUA: New alliance - and a PLC deal too?

President Enrique Bolaños has put together a new alliance of six political parties to contest this year's municipal elections, scheduled for 7 November. He has also been involved in conversations which some believe aim at striking a deal with some leaders of the opposition Partido Liberal Constitucionalista (PLC), the core Liberal force, still directed from his place of confinement by former President Arnoldo Alemán.
