*Bolivian transport workers have reached an agreement with the government to lift roadblocks in La Paz department, which began on 25 March and which they had warned would continue indefinitely as tensions persist over damage caused to vehicles by
contaminated fuel distributed by state hydrocarbon company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB). The leaders of the La Paz transport union, Federación de Transportistas de La Paz, accompanied by social leaders from the cities of La Paz and El Alto, met yesterday with the Hydrocarbon and Energy Minister
Mauricio Medinaceli, Economy and Finance Minister
José Gabriel Espinoza, Interior Minister
Marco Antonio Oviedo, and Public Works, Services, and Housing Minister
Mauricio Zamora. They agreed to lift the roadblocks while the government conducts a transparent investigation into fuel quality in La Paz, which will include joint inspections of the Senkata fuel depot in El Alto, petrol stations, and visits to the countries of origin of imported fuel. They also reached agreements on compensation for damaged vehicles, and for YPFB to open physical offices and digital platforms for transport unions to present demands for compensation.
