In his first two weeks in office, Chile’s far-right President José Antonio Kast has seen his opinion poll ratings plunge abruptly. Much of the decline in popularity can be attributed to his government’s response to the war in Iran – dramatically pushing up domestic petrol and diesel prices. In a reminder of previous strife to afflict the country, students and others came out on the streets to protest.
