Washington plays catch up

According to a report by law firm White & Case the US government, responding to the challenge from China, has channelled more than US$1bn into Latin American REE and critical mineral projects since the start of 2025. The money has been earmarked for lithium, copper, and rare earths, and is designed to strengthen supply chains and defence priorities. Key destinations for this funding support include Brazil and Argentina.
