In brief: Dominican exports surge

*Exports from the Dominican Republic increased by as much as 48% in the first four months of 2026 in year-on-year terms, reaching US$2.31bn, according to figures released by the country’s export lobby Asociación Dominicana de Exportadores (Adoexpo) that were reported in the local daily El Nuevo Diario yesterday. The figures were shared by Adoexpo’s president, Karel Castillo, at the body’s traditional business lunch attended by, inter alia, the minister of industry, commerce and micro, small and medium enterprises, Eduardo ‘Yayo’ Sanz Lovatón, who delivered an address entitled ‘Dominican Republic: Exporting Powerhouse’. Castillo said exports were driven by the mining sector: mining exports saw a 101% year-on-year increase in the first four months of the year while non-mining exports were up by 15.6%. He said the “dynamism” of the export sector at the start of the year followed on from the 33% increase in exports to US$5.74bn in 2025 compared with the previous year.
