In brief: Mexico’s economic activity stagnates in May

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published its preliminary indicator of economic activity (IOAE) for May which estimates that there was no variation in economic activity in monthly terms while economic activity was up 1.1% year-on-year. In yearly terms, Inegi estimated an increase of 0.7% in secondary activities and 1.7% in the tertiary sector. Mexico’s economy contracted 0.6% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the preceding quarter, while in yearly terms economic activity was up by 0.4% in real terms.
