ARGENTINA: Pressure increases on Adorni

The pressure continues to mount on Manuel Adorni. Argentina’s beleaguered cabinet chief has for months faced scrutiny over accusations of illicit enrichment, which he has repeatedly denied. However, on 11 June, he admitted to having kept some US$500,000 in undeclared off-the-books savings. The admission risks serving as the final straw for government-allied parties Propuesta Republicana (PRO) and Unión Cívica Radical (UCR), which are reportedly considering backing a motion of censure against Adorni promoted by the opposition Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronists). While President Javier Milei continues to stand by his cabinet chief, growing misgivings within the ruling far-right La Libertad Avanza (LLA) may soon make this untenable.
