Job creation slows. The labour ministry released new figures from its national employment registry (Novo Caged) on 30 June, which showed that a net 72,960 new jobs were created in May. This is down on monthly terms compared with the net 79,526 jobs created in April and a year-on-year decrease compared with 153,108 jobs in May 2025. A total of 2.21m new hires were registered in May this year, which is lower than the 2.29m new hires the previous month and 2.28m new hires in the same month last year. Meanwhile, dismissals totalled 2.13m, which is down from 2.21m in April but up from 2.13m in May 2025.
