BRAZIL | Sugar cane harvest forecast reduced. On 20 August, the Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the logistics arm of Brazil’s agrarian development ministry, released a new forecast for the 2026/2027 sugar cane harvest, showing a total of 705.2m tonnes (t). Although this would mark a 4.7% rise compared to the 2025/2026 cycle, it is lower than Conab’s previous forecast of 709.1m t released in April. Brazil’s southeast, the main sugar cane region, is expected to produce 451.4m t, which would be up 5.0% on the previous harvest, while the second largest producer region, the centre-west, is projected to produce 157.0m t in 2026/2027, which would be up 4.6% compared to 2025/2026.
