MEXICO | FDI up in first half of 2026. On 24 August Mexico’s economy ministry (SE) announced that the country had received a “record” US$34.97bn in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of the year. The SE said this represented a 2.1% increase on the first half of 2025 and was the highest amount of FDI on record for the first six months of a year. The SE also noted that FDI between January and June 2026 represented an 89.7% increase on that recorded in the same period of 2021. Despite the record result, FDI in the second quarter of 2026 was down 3.5% year-on-year, totalling US$10.46bn. The SE attributed this drop to the “atypical growth” registered in the second quarter of 2025, rather than to poor performance in Q2 2026.
