REGION: Bracing for El Niño
Panama, El Salvador, and Honduras have all been compelled to declare states of emergency due to conditions associated with the El Niño weather phenomenon. This comes as Central America is already bracing for what is expected to be severe effects of El Niño, which began in June, is forecast to last into 2027, and is expected to disproportionately hit the so-called ‘Dry Corridor’ (a swathe of tropical dry forest spanning parts of Central America, including Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala).
