In brief: Brazil posts slower quarterly growth in Q2

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the official GDP growth figures for the second quarter of this year, which showed 0.5% quarterly growth. Although this is slightly higher than the quarterly growth rate of 0.4% registered in Q2 2025, this latest figure marks a slowdown compared to the 1.1% quarterly growth in Q1 this year. In year-on-year terms, growth was 2.0% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 1.8% in the first quarter. Accumulated growth for the four quarters through Q2 2026 stood at 1.9%. As regards the July 2026 quarterly figure, agriculture expanded 2.8% on the previous quarter while industry grew 0.1% and services, 0.2%. Meanwhile agriculture expanded 6.8% in the second quarter year-on-year, while industry and services both grew 1.5%.
