CUBA: Humanitarian fears rise amid surge in extreme poverty

Cuba Study Group (CSG), a US-based non-partisan policy and advocacy organisation comprising Cuban-American business leaders, has issued a report urging a “stronger humanitarian response to Cuba’s deepening crisis” as a result of the sanctions by the US administration led by President Donald Trump, which since January has been carrying out a maximum-pressure campaign on the island, aimed at forcing an economic and political opening. The report comes weeks after Spain-based NGO Observatorio Cubano de Derechos Humanos (OCDH) released a new report claiming that a staggering 94% of Cubans are now living in extreme poverty.
