Peru's Sendero back in action, or 'friendly fire' fiasco?

The Peruvian government has been obliquely claiming that the long inactive Sendero Luminoso column led by `Artemio' [WR-04-17] went into action last week against two patrols, one of police and one of marines, in an ambush which left two of the former and one of the latter dead. Some sources in Lima suggest that what may have happened is a `friendly fire' incident between the two forces.
