Mixed progress in poverty reduction

The UN Economic Commission for Latin America (Eclac) last month released its annual “Social Panorama of Latin America 2010". It showed that while less pronounced than in the rest of South America, the sub-region was overall continuing to make progress in poverty reduction efforts despite the 2008 global financial crisis and the subsequent recession. At the same time, the report reiterated Eclac's concern that this progress remains limited given the inequalities which persist across the region.
