ECONOMIC OVERVIEW: GUATEMALA

Guatemala's inflation rate reached 1.58% in the first two months of 2011, according to the national statistics institute (INE). The cost of a basic food basket (CCBA) for a family of five reached Q2187.30 (US$283) in February 2011, representing a 0.86% increase on the previous month and 11.88% increase on the previous year. The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei) is forecasting that inflation will reach 6.2% in 2011, up from 5.4% in 2010.
