ECONOMIC OVERVIEW: COSTA RICA

On 4 February the European parliament ratified the recent agreement signed by the European Union (EU) with Latin American banana producers. Under the deal, which was struck to prevent the EU falling foul of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the EU cut its tariffs from â‚ ¬176 (US$240) per tonne to â‚ ¬148 (US$206) per tonne in 2010. The EU will now cut them progressively to â‚ ¬114 (US$155) by 2017.
