CHILE: Everyone loses as Spiniak case falls apart

The sex scandal that has whipped Chile's media into a ten-month feeding frenzy appears to have reached its climax. Since October 2003 allegations of paedophilia have discredited the Catholic Church, brought down an editor of a national newspaper, forced the resignation of a left-wing mayor and driven a wedge between the two main parties in the rightwing Alianza por Chile coalition.
