PARAGUAY: Duarte's anniversary prompts little celebration
Paraguay's president, Nicanor Duarte, celebrated a year in office on 15 August amid little fanfare. The lack of celebration was understandable: Paraguay is still reeling from the 1 August fire in an Asunción
supermarket which claimed some 400 lives. However, even had it not been for the fire, it is unlikely that the national and international press would have been brimming with eulogies for the president; the consensus is that Duarte still has to prove himself.
